About the victim:
#KaylaBarfield, 30, worked at the Aspen Institute in Washington, DC. Although she worked in DC, she lived in Maryland with her family for ten years. Kayla graduated from Robert Clemente High School and attended Ross Medical School in Ann Arbor. She had two children, who now reside with their father. According to her mother, Kayla was held captive on February 27, 2022. That day, Kayla spoke to her sister about meeting and helping a woman with a baby. While her sister was worried on the other line, Kayla didn’t know how much danger she was in. One week after that call, on March 7, 2022, Kayla’s job said she hadn’t made it in all week, which was very unusual. On March 8, 2022, just one day later, Kayla was found on the floor of the back seat of her car with a sheet thrown on top of her. According to the family, Kayla’s hair was ripped from her head, and she parked in a random DC neighborhood. On March 9, Kayla’s mother and sister arrived in DC, where Kayla was on life support and unresponsive. Unfortunately, the young mother died fighting for her life, but her killers were never found, and her sister took to social media for help.
