Reality star and entrepreneur Monyetta Shaw-Carter is sharing her powerful journey through breast cancer, revealing how early detection played a crucial role in her recovery. In an exclusive interview with People, she explained that she first noticed something unusual during a self-exam in September 2024. “It was like nothing I’ve ever felt before,” she said. A mammogram the following month confirmed the presence of stage 1 invasive ductal carcinoma. Shaw-Carter underwent a lumpectomy in January 2025, followed by 16 rounds of radiation, and completed her treatment in early May.

Now 45, the Real Housewives of Atlanta star celebrated her recovery with a pink-themed birthday party on May 31, symbolizing strength and survival. She admitted that receiving the diagnosis was one of the most frightening moments of her life. “Everything around me stopped. My heart dropped. I was afraid. I was angry. I was just numb,” she recalled. Initially considering a double mastectomy, she ultimately chose a lumpectomy after favorable genetic testing results and careful reflection.

As a mother of two and a public figure, Shaw-Carter is using her platform to raise awareness about breast cancer and the importance of early detection. “Our health is irreplaceable,” she emphasized. She credits her medical team and loved ones for their support and hopes her story will inspire others to listen to their bodies and advocate for their health. “It can be a matter of life or death”
