Black Women Are Losing Federal Government Jobs At A Rapid Rate

When #PresidentTrump came into office, one of the first things his administration attempted to dismantle was #DEI programs. DEI stands for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and was created to create an even playing field among people based on their race, possible disabilities, and gender. Many jobs and universities had their departments dedicated to DEI programs as well as big-name companies.
However, once the Trump administration came into the White House, they began to threaten companies and universities to get rid of their DEI programs or there would be financial consequences. One big company that took away their DEI programs was Target, and a big-name university that took away their DEI program was the University of Alabama. On the other hand, federal jobs began to also take away their DEI programs and this began to affect Black Women.

Based on an investigation by Pro Publica, Black Women were the biggest group of people to be affected by these job cuts. In March of this year, a class action lawsuit was filed by the U.S. Merit Systems Protection Board, with support from the ACLU of D.C. claiming that the Trump Administration violated their First Amendment rights and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. Approximately 90 percent of federal workers were fired and 80 percent of them were Black Women.

Black Women who had worked for decades within the federal government were suddenly fired after these new DEI changes. For example, according to ProPublica, the Department of Education used to be mostly non-white, consisting of 28 percent of Black Women. The department, due to new policies, in return cut its staff short by 46 percent. There haven't been any more updates about the Class Action lawsuit that had been filed, but more firings are to be expected given the Trump Administration pressure.
