Two dead in shooting at Lowell Apartments in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) — A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday evening at The Lowell Apartments on Milgen Rd. in Columbus, leaving two people dead. The Columbus Police Department was on the scene, with buildings three and four temporarily blocked off.

The victims, identified as 23-year-old #KaylaJenkins and 27-year-old #DeandreJones, were found dead at the scene. Deputy Muscogee County Coroner Dustin Harrelson confirmed the fatalities.

On Monday, #MuscogeeCounty Coroner #BuddyBryan spoke to News Leader 9, revealing that Jenkins and Jones were in a relationship. Bryan stated, “We were notified about 7:06 to come out to 4712 Milgen Road where we had two deceased. Usually when we go to a situation like that, we’re pretty well aware that it’s going to be a homicide-suicide.”

Bryan further explained that Jones had shot Jenkins multiple times before turning the gun on himself. Surveillance footage from the scene provided crucial evidence. Bryan said, “It was caught on video of him coming up to the apartment, so they had what they needed.”

Bryan also spoke to Jones’ mother, who confirmed that Jenkins and Jones had been dating for about two or three months.

The investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing. Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact Sgt. Donna Baker at 706-225-4296 or via email at dbaker@columbusga.org.
