WASHINGTON, D.C. — Detectives from the #Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch Major Case Squad are currently investigating a heartbreaking incident that occurred on May 3, 2024, in Southeast. The victim, #TyahSettles, a 3-year-old girl, was found suffering from a gunshot wound near a fire station in the 2400 block of Irving Street, Southeast. Despite all life-saving efforts, she was pronounced dead.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Ty’ah was inside a vehicle in the 2300 block of Hartford Street, Southeast, at the time of the shooting. Seventh District officers had responded to the sounds of gunshots in the area, and shortly afterward, Ty’ah was discovered near the fire station. She was airlifted by United States Park Police to a local hospital, but tragically, her injuries were fatal.
The Metropolitan Police Department is urging anyone with knowledge of this incident to come forward. The MPD currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for each homicide committed in the District of Columbia12.
