Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson has made history in Dekalb County, GA, by becoming the first Black Woman to become elected for CEO. On June 18th, Johnson faced Commissioner Larry Johnson after both were forced into a run-off after the Primary Election in May. By the end of the run-off election at 10 P.M Johnson was leading by 60 percent.
Johnson had been the Super District 7 Commissioner in Dekalb County since January 2019. While in that position her accomplishments included: Materializing over $380 million in infrastructure improvements through the SPLOST program, led charge to revive DeKalb County Land Bank with $200,000 appropriation to address blight and place abated properties into productive use and on tax digest, and founded Lock-In-For-Life in 2019 to provide guidance to black male youth through mentorship, life skills, mental health, and self-empowerment training to more than 500 program participants.
