Cousin of Zion Foster found guilty of Second-Degree Murder

Cousin of #ZionFoster found guilty of second-degree murder.

A Wayne County jury deliberated less than hour on Thursday before finding the cousin of 17-year-old Zion Foster guilty of killing her and disposing of her body in a dumpster in 2022.

Though Zion's body was never found — police traced the #HighlandPark dumpster in which #JaylinBrazier, 24, said he dumped Zion's body to a Macomb County landfill that they searched for days without luck — Wayne County Assistant Prosecutor Ryan Elsey said during his closing argument in Wayne Circuit Court that there is a "simple explanation" for what happened the night of Jan. 4, 2022.

The trial against Brazier, who was convicted of one count of second-degree murder and tampering with evidence, spanned nine days as prosecutors had to prove Zion was murdered, even though her body was never found. They used Brazier's own statements against him to prove he was involved, playing jail calls and interrogation videos in court in which his story changed multiple times.

Brazier will be sentenced at 9 a.m. June 3 by Wayne Circuit Judge Donald Knapp. He faces up to life in prison.
