Allisha Watts Boyfriend Awaits Trial After Being Charged For Her Murder

#AllishaWatts was a 39-year-old woman from #SouthernPines, North Carolina. She was very well known in her community for being a tremendous leader and an overall kind person. One of her co-workers, Author Mason stated, “She came into our organization out here at the American Legion and she was also a member at the Housing Land Trust,” and that Watts was a pillar in the community. She was also an advocate for mental health awareness.

Watts was last seen on July 16, 2023 in #Charlotte, North Carolina leaving her boyfriend, #JamesDunmore’s, house in University City. According to WRAL News, Dunmore was convicted of kidnapping in 2003 as well as, abduction, stalking and assault and battery. Two days after she went missing, police found her car with Dunmore inside unresponsive at the Anson County DMV office. Watts' family stated that she went to Charlotte to be with Dunmore and to go to a comedy show at the Bojangles Coliseum, but she never made it. On July 19, Watts was reported missing after her family still had not heard from her.

The police then began to search around the area where her car was last seen, as well as the area nearby. The next day on the 20th, the police found a shell casing from a 9mm gun outside of Dunmore’s house. Additionally, the police also searched Dunmore’s home on July 26th, but did not disclose as to why they were there. On August 24th, 2023, Watts’s body was found in the area of Norman, a small town along Interstate 74, near the Richmond and Montgomery County line. That same day Dunmore was charged with her murder and denied bond three days later after appearing in court.

Two months later in October ,it was revealed that the prosecution would not pursue the Death Penalty and Dunmore’s bond was set at $1 million. In March of 2024, the autopsy results for Watts were revealed. Her death was revealed to be “undetermined”, because the body was too decomposed to come to a definitive conclusion. The medical examiner wrote, "given the scene findings, autopsy findings, and toxicological findings, as well as the impossibility of ruling out other competing causes of death because of skeletonization, the cause and manner of death ... are best left as undetermined.”  Dunmore as of April 2024 is still being held at the Montgomery County Jail after being denied a lower bond.
