50-year-old arrested in girlfriend's killing after overnight shooting in Boutte

BOUTTE, La. — A report of gunfire in Boutte early Wednesday morning led to the arrest of a 50-year-old man, L.J. McCoy Jr., for allegedly killing his girlfriend, according to #StCharlesParish authorities.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call around 1 a.m. from a person who overheard gunshots and the sound of shattering glass near Old Spanish Trail and Billings Lane in Boutte. Upon arrival, deputies were approached by McCoy, who directed them to the location where 38-year-old #AshleyThomas had been shot.

Following an investigation, authorities determined that it was McCoy who had shot Thomas and subsequently obtained a warrant for his arrest. The department has not disclosed how they identified McCoy as the perpetrator.

McCoy was booked with second-degree murder and is currently being held at the #NelsonColemanCorrectionalCenter in Killona. Information regarding bail was not immediately available.

This tragic incident is still under investigation, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
